Message From Graham Norton
[ Posted 19 December 2009 in Streep by Simon Streep ]
We recently had the privilege of hanging out and drinking wine with UK talk show host Graham Norton. For those that aren't familiar with British culture, he is pretty much like the UK's answer to Oprah. But that's obviously only if the question was, "We need someone funnier and slightly less black."
A while back we ended up being Skyped on his show because we wrote a song about Anna Paquin, and his team found it and wanted to play it to Anna when she was on the show. We'd always hoped she'd somehow end up hearing the song, but obviously we weren't expecting she'd hear it for the first time on British television. Much to our amazement, everything fell in place and this surreal moment ended up happening - and we have proof:
And then last week I ended up getting a call from Graham asking whether The Brothers Streep would be interested in writing a song on his behalf to give to his production team as a Christmas thank you present.
So on Monday this week, we ended up at the house he's about to sell in Cape Town, handing over the song we wrote for him, and chatting about how toasters can connect to the Internet and burn the weather onto your bread.
And you - faithful blog reader - can listen to the song too by downloading it here. This isn't exactly going to be super relevant to everyone, but hey, neither was our old song about the budget horror film Sharkman.
If you're part of the Graham Norton Show production team and are reading this, we hope you enjoyed the song, and thank you so much for using us in the show - hopefully we'll cross paths again soon!
Message From Graham Norton (lyrics)
Everyone said it couldn't be done
the move from BBC 2, to BBC 1
We've heard the basic memo from the boss
was to copy what works from Jonathan Ross
And now this season has had it's run
we do believe some thanking should be done
So Graham got us to write this song
obviously Lloyd Webber had something else on...
‘Yo-an’'s the producer whose work has really shone
even though he clearly can't pronounce his name John
Steve Smith's the director who follows his heart
from all his work in TV he can tell Ant and Dec apart
Then there's Graham Stuart - a big name in the media,
also politician and footballer if you believe Wikipedia
He co-founded So TV, is in the executive line
but we've run out of facts on him so now it's Chorus time...
Graham wants to thank you this Christmas for keeping him alive
'cause if there was no Graham Norton Show, he'd still be on Channel 5
Graham wants to thank you this Christmas for getting him this far
'cause if things weren't successful, he'd be replaced by Alan Carr
Lisa Anderson makes sure the scripts are supervised
we believe she’s well equipped, at least so say all the guys
Like Rob and Dan the writers, to whom Graham’s words belong
If only they had been here, to help us write this song
Catherine manages production, while Bryony manages Catherine
Anna, Liz and Russell assist in producing magic television
Cassie researches and looks like the wife in Family Guy
she also does impressions, but we’re not quite sure why
Tony and Renee thought Graham could get some
at least we think that’s why they booked Will Young
Graham wants to thank you this Christmas for keeping him alive
'cause if there was no Graham Norton Show, he'd still be on Channel 5
Graham wants to thank you this Christmas for getting him this far
'cause if things weren't successful, he'd be replaced by Alan Carr
To fit in everybody’s name has been rather hard
We’re sorry if we’ve left you out, we hope at least you’ll get a card
Lucy, Mike and Lynda; Sophie, Emily and Jane
Helen, Becky and Rebecca, Graham thanks you all the same
Graham wants to thank you this Christmas for keeping him alive
'cause if there was no Graham Norton Show, he'd still be on Channel 5
Graham wants to thank you this Christmas by giving you this song
You should all know the words by now, feel free to sing along
Graham wants to thank you this Christmas for keeping him alive
'cause if there was no Graham Norton Show, he'd still be on Channel 5
Graham wants to thank you this Christmas for getting him this far
'cause if things weren't successful, he'd be replaced by Alan Carr
Written and performed by The Brothers Streep from Graham Norton to The Graham Norton Show crew for their work on Season Six (2009).

19 December 2009At the risk of wearing out my welcome, I have to say:
1) You wrote that in what, a week or under? Fabuloso.
2) Maybe you guys should change the group name to The Brothers Streep "Legs - We Gots Them" ... And who knew Graham was so muscular!? I'd whistle at you but you wouldn't hear it.
3) Well, there is no 3. Oh, well, I"m seeing Avatar tomorrow morning (Saturday, 9am my time) at the IMAX theatre. Let me know if you want to know if it's good. I "think" it will be so fantastic I hope I don't faint.
Thanks, I enjoyed the song immensely.

19 December 2009It's true. We do have legs.
Fylan Streep
19 December 2009I think in the Christmas spirit I, who have been blessed with considerably more legs than others, should give some of my legs away to those less fortunate than myself..
Hugh
19 December 2009That's mighty generous of you Fylan. You should start with donating to Tim P - he seems awful short in the leg department in the photo...

19 December 2009So, forgive me if I've gotten this wrong, but isn't that handsome man on the far right in your group photo, Tim S. Streep, and why is he wearing pants? Allergic to the sun? I must know these things, it's just how I roll. And also, the lack of symmetry, with legs, legs, legs, legs, legs, pants(!) was like ripping the needle off the record playing that famous Rod Stewart song that had started playing in my head when I first saw the photo.

21 December 2009Sharkman! I love that song!
Wilbert
21 December 2009I like it :D
will this be featured on the Graham Norton show?? I think it should be.
I have one more question:
when will you guys upload or sell a new album? I can't wait to hear more of your music.
