The New Adventures of The Brothers Streep #2

[ Posted 18 January 2010 in Newsletters by Simon Streep ]

We've started organising our mini-UK tour for later this year, and in the process we ended up e-mailing comedian Stewart Francis for some advice, and he kindly responded with the name of someone who could help us, and with the name of his favourite condiment.  Which apparently is HP Sauce.  And that got me thinking about HP Sauce...

It's weird that we've simply accepted HP Sauce, because we don't really know what's in it.  Or at least we might know, but it's not immediately obvious what's in it.  Tomato Sauce contains tomatoes, it's in the name, but HP Sauce doesn't leave us with any obvious clues.  I decided that this was a conversation best left to Twitter, so I asked...

What does the HP in HP Sauce stand for?  And would I be wrong for suggesting 'Harry Potter'?

The first to respond was KFM's Richard Hardiman (the Partyman), suggesting...  Hewlett Packard?  IT guys try upgrading everything.

I briefly thought this might be his cunning way to distract us from the truth - HP could stand for Hardiman the Partyman - but apparently, according to quite a few other people, it stands for Houses of Parliament.  Well at least that clears that up - now we know what HP stands for, and what happens to politicians when they retire.

Enough about sauce though, get out your diaries, it's time to make notes of some gigs...

18th Jan (today), we'll be playing at the Barleycorn Music Club at Rygersdal Sports Club.  The show starts at 8pm and costs R20 and will include the musical genius of K, Ray and the Bird, Steve Newman and Middle Earth.

29th Jan (next Friday), we'll be journeying to the mystical land of Fish Hoek to play at the newly established  Bottomup Youth Cafe hosted by the Fish Hoek Full Gospel Church.  Fish Hoek is a coastal town, so be sure to wear an anorak and beanie so that you blend in.

7th Feb (Sunday), we'll be entertaining tourists and everyone who needs a break from shopping at the V&A Waterfront Amphitheatre.  We should start at 5pm, and the show will be free.

13th Feb (Saturday), it's back to Rygersdal for the Barleycorn Music Festival - be sure to click here for more information.  As it stands, we'll be playing round 6:35pm.

23rd March (Tuesday), we're renting out horses and journeying all the way to the Northern Suburbs to play a duo show at Die Boer in Durbanville.  This show will also be free, and will start round 8pm.

Alright, you can put your diaries away - that's it for now.  Enjoy the rest of your week, and hopefully we'll see some of you at the Barleycorn tonight.  I'll leave you with one of my favourite Stewart Francis quotes...

"I quit my job at the helium factory, I refuse to be spoken to in that tone..."

Doesn't HP have petroleum in it?! ... er, no, that's BP. Sorry. So HP on your steak, BP in your car. Got it.

"Fish Hoek is a coastal town, so be sure to wear an anorak and beanie so that you blend in." You forgot to add: "Come barefoot with words of gratitude that you, as a local, didn't have to leave the Valley that night." Either way, massive lol.
