The New Adventures of The Brothers Streep #5
[ Posted 9 February 2010 in Newsletters by Simon Streep ]
We were fortunate enough to get a great shout out in the Cape Argus last weekend. We’re playing at the Barleycorn Music Festival this Saturday, and Jasper Dick, a spokesman for the event, was very gracious in his promotional interview, stating that he’s saved the best for last and that we completely stole the show at last year’s festival - which is a particularly nice thing to say, especially considering we didn’t even play the festival last year.
There also seems to be some mix up with who he thinks is in the band, because he seems to have included a sixth member, and I’m almost certain that last time we played, there were only five people on stage. This has led me to believe that perhaps Jasper Dick is a prophet, and he has foreseen the future, where next year we’re playing last at the festival, having completely stolen the show at this year’s festival, and somewhere along the line, picked up an extra band member. 2011 – you shall be an interesting year...
In all seriousness though, thank you Jasper Dick for your kind words – we hope we’ll do them justice this Saturday. If you’re keen to come along to the festival, click here for more information, or phone 082 493 1564 – our set will start roughly round 7pm, but it the whole festival starts at 2pm, and there are some great bands playing, so I recommend making a day out of it.
Today marks our first duo show at Ruby Tuesday – so if you’re free tonight and can come down for a meal and a drink, please do so – we’ll need the support because we’re hoping to get a residency there. We’ll be trying out some new material tonight, so it should be pretty fun. We might even play something on the Omnichord, and if that’s not enough reason to come through, then I don’t know what is. We’ll be there round about 7pm, so feel free to come and hang out with us then, but the actual show is 8pm for 8:30pm.
Other dates on the horizon...
19th Feb (Friday) Dylan and I will be playing with Forgottensuperhero at Octopus Gardens in Kalk Bay.
10th March (Wednesday) will mark the South African BBC Entertainment airing of our UK debut on the Graham Norton Show.
23rd March (Tuesday) it’s time to meet up with our good friends K, Ray and the Bird again for a duo show at Die Boer in Durbanville.
16th April (Saturday) it’s Brothers Streep Storytellers at Fogeys – to raise funds for our upcoming album, the full band is going to strip things down and chat about the stories behind our songs.
And last but not least, thanks to all those who came through to our Felicia Mabuza Suttle Tribute Show – if you missed it, be sure to check out Tim S’s photo blog of the event, and special thanks to Nikki Streep for taking the pictures.
Hope you have a great week, and we look forward to seeing you around!

9 February 2010Ha Ha! Can't believe you can't remember the awesome show you played there last year! Remember, Dylan kissed Tim P during my pirate friends and me, and then Simon's pants fell down and everybody saw his spongebob squarepant undies.. Was a great night....

9 February 2010Craig, you seem to be having strange dreams and mistaking them for reality again. Which reminds me, please return that yellow canary of mine which you borrowed that speaks fluent Russian and has the power to turn spongecake invisible.
