Dyl Streep's Rant & Rave: Brights

[ Posted 20 November 2009 in Life by Dylan Streep ]

Hey gang, it has been a while since I ranted and/or raved about anything. I apologise. So I'll just get straight to the point. Why don't people turned their stupid brights off when they are driving in my direction?!

To properly appreciate this rant, one must know that I do not drive a particularly powerful or obnoxious car. In fact, I drive 'Detroit (I Love This City)'. Now, don't get me wrong, I love my car. It just doesn't pack a huge punch. It is, however, a million times more awesome and epic than 'Blue Bomb: Car of the Year in Europe and the U.S.A.'! (That's a whole other story - you can hear my thoughts on my debut car if you listen to this episode of the Tankcasts)

That being said, if I was to drive around a corner or over a small hill late at night and saw a car coming in my direction, I would turn off my brights. It's polite. I don't think in my case it even makes much of a difference. But it's common courtesy. So why do, and I hesitate to generalise, bigger and more powerful cars insist on leaving them on? Is it that they can't actually see smaller cars? Do they want to blind the little people so they can rule the world? Or is it that they simply want to see us drive off the road in a moment of glare?

Because that is pretty much what happens. I can't see in those moments. I have to go on instinct, quickly calculating the theoretical direction and trajectory of the hopefully-upcoming piece of road. Very dangerous!

Maybe I should just wash my windshield. Hmmm.

Thanks,

Dyl Streep.
