The New Adventures of The Brothers Streep #8

[ Posted on 9 March 2010 in Newsletters by Simon Streep ]

Yes – it’s newsletter time – your little catch-up with what’s going on in the world of The Brothers Streep.  This is like when you’ve bumped into a friend in the shops, and you haven’t chatted for a while, so they start filling you in on things that you’re not particularly interested to hear about, but you don’t want to jeopardise your friendship, so you start to find yourself saying things like, “No no no, I’m not in a hurry, please do tell me more about how last week you discovered a tiny bicycle in your Chicken Cordon Bleu.”

The New Adventures of The Brothers Streep #7

Despite massive advances in technology over the past few years, I find it strange that we don’t seem to have improved the toaster.  Most appliances are fairly effective in carrying out the tasks they were designed for, but the toaster is a bit hit and miss.  It’s troubling to me that you have to keep an eye on your toast because sometimes it’s just going to burn for no particularly good reason.  I also find it strange that the toaster has settings that no man in their right mind would ever want.  If my toast sometimes burns when it is on 4, why on earth would I ever choose 6?  Maybe I just have a bad toaster.

The New Adventures of The Brothers Streep #6

Dylan and I had a meeting in town today, so whilst we were in the area we decided to have a quick game of Putt Putt.  My levels of co-ordination were at an all time high in the first half of the game, beating Dyl by one in the front nine.

My unprecedented success unbalanced the universe for a bit, and for a while, the very essence of life as we know it began to fall apart.  Jamie Oliver began speaking without a lisp, Jacob Zuma vowed to live a life of monogamy, and Oprah Winfrey decided someone else could be on the front cover of O Magazine.  Fortunately, in the back nine, I dropped enough shots to be beaten by seven, and the universe was restored to its usual form.

The New Adventures of The Brothers Streep #5

We were fortunate enough to get a great shout out in the Cape Argus last weekend.  We’re playing at the Barleycorn Music Festival this Saturday, and Jasper Dick, a spokesman for the event, was very gracious in his promotional interview, stating that he’s saved the best for last and that we completely stole the show at last year’s festival - which is a particularly nice thing to say, especially considering we didn’t even play the festival last year.

Millions of people around the world are wondering what exactly is going to happen in the first episode of the final season of LOST which premieres tonight.  Now some of you might not want to know this, but SPOILER ALERT, this is the episode where you find out that Jack is just a inanimate piece of airplane shrapnel that has developed a conscious and wrongfully assumed it is a human.

Well, no, if you were expecting LOST Season Six spoilers, Google has let you down.  It’s time to actually find out what’s happening in the world of Streep this week...

The New Adventures of The Brothers Streep #3

This is our third week back in action, and things seem to be going well.  We’ve already learnt more about Dylan’s acting career, magicians and how to pick up satellite TV without a satellite – so I think now it’s time to leak out some more information about our upcoming album.

The New Adventures of The Brothers Streep #2

We've started organising our mini-UK tour for later this year, and in the process we ended up e-mailing comedian Stewart Francis for some advice, and he kindly responded with the name of someone who could help us, and with the name of his favourite condiment.  Which apparently is HP Sauce.  And that got me thinking about HP Sauce...

The New Adventures of The Brothers Streep #1

Christmas is over and so is the New Year, which means we have very little excuse to still be on holiday, which is why we’ve decided to kick our site back into full gear and start with a newsletter.

Of course there are always leftovers in the fridge from Christmas which have no real place being there, but they got hidden behind the margarine and so they’ve been enjoying developing mould for the past 3 weeks, proudly raising a rotten army which will eventually inspire you to throw out all the eggs, before you realise it’s actually that piece of broccoli that your grandfather wouldn’t eat because it reminded him of the war.  And if I’ve learnt anything this Christmas, it’s that you shouldn’t dress up broccoli to look like the secret police.

We've got a charity show coming up soon, and in order for this event to be a success, we could do with your help...

We've partnered with our friends K, Ray and the Bird and the Barleycorn Music Club, and are putting on a festive family show on Saturday 19th December at Rygersdal Sport's Club (Erin Rd) in Rondebosch at 8pm.  It's only R20 to get in, and all the money is going to charity.  (We've still actually got to pick the charity, so if you have any ideas, we're totally open to hear them!)

Guide to The Brothers Streep, Week 44

[ Posted on 26 October 2009 in Newsletters by Simon Streep ]

It's time to try answer what has been on everyone's minds... What's next?  Did Juliet really set off the hydrogen bomb?  Was that white flash at the end of 'The Incident' the explosion, or was it the island jumping through time again?  Oh and of course, what will the Brothers Streep be up to in the next couple of weeks?
