Last night I made the mistake of logging on to www.omegle.com. If you’re not familiar with the site, its catch phrase is ‘talk to strangers’, and that’s exactly what you do. It connects you with a completely random person from somewhere around the world, and then you start chatting to them, and the rest is up to you.

6:25pm, Monday night. There I was, standing in Spar Tops - the 'classy' bottle store - picking up a few Hunters Dry for our Streep braai and band practice, when suddenly my phone rang. Trying to answer your phone while holding a pack of lamb chops, your wallet, your bank card, and a six pack of glass bottles involves defying the laws of gravity and limbs per average human somewhat, but I managed to get to it in time.
