This is our debut album, launched on the 29th September 2006 at an intimate show in the Nassau Theatre in Cape Town.

These were the early days of Streep, when we were just a duo and songs were written regardless to whether people would understand them, or even laugh at them. If it was fun and we liked it, it made it onto the album. Even though some of these songs are truly ridiculous and obscure, it’s these songs that helped us find our style and grew us into the band we are today.

A few production notes:

  • It was only near the very end of recording this album that we decided to change our name from The Meryl Streep Screachers to The Brothers Streep.
  • Despite the full band not existing yet, they were still included in the production. Tim S gave us the sound card we used to record the songs, Tim P designed all the artwork, and Rich featured as a skyrocket in Afternoon Delight, and did background vocals in The Gary Song.
  • The album was recorded with minimal equipment at Simon’s parents’ house. We used Shure Microphones to record everything, and used a pair of Simon’s boxer shorts as a pop filter.
